Journal of
International Health is the
quarterly official journal of the Japan Association for International
Health.
A
key objective is to share information, learn what others learned, and
discuss future challenges in research, intervention, field practice,
education, management, and policy making in International Health, which
promotes members' activities and further addresses international health
issues.
While
this journal pursues high quality articles in terms of science and art,
with comprehensive and multidisciplinary aspects of international health
the journal encourages members with various expertise and professions
ranging from policy-making to field practice to submit articles from
diverse perspectives such as politics, socio-economics and culture.
Therefore, an article should be prepared in such a way to make field
practitioners and other specialists understand.
Authors
should prepare and submit manuscripts based on the following instructions.
Refer to 'Uniform Requirements
for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals' issued by the
International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org/ Accessed
November 21, 2004)
for
those not included in the instructions.
1.
Eligibility: The first
author should be the member of the Japan Association for International
Health. Those who do not hold the membership of the Association ought to
make an application for admission concurrently with the manuscript
submission. Journal of International Health does not accept the
manuscript that has been published or will be published elsewhere.
2.
Research Ethics: All
researches involving either human participants or materials of human
origin should proceed in accordance with the principles in the Declaration
of Helsinki of 1975, which was embodied by The World Medical Association.
All researches involving cases should fully concern the participants'
privacy.
3.
Types and formats of
Articles:
As shown
in Table 1, nine types of articles are considered for inclusion. In
addition, articles that are invited by the Editorial Board could be
published.

4.
Review of
Manuscripts
The Editorial Board reviews the
submitted manuscripts by two board members and the councils and might
refer back to the authors for revision within 6 months. Authors should
send back the revised version that shows where changes have been made. If
the referred-back manuscripts are not sent back for more than 3 months
from the returning date, it is regarded as a withdrawal from the
submission.
5.
Arrangement of
Manuscripts:
The text
should be typed or printed in 12 point type, on one side of the page,
fully double-spaced using A4 size white paper of good quality. Number all
pages consecutively, starting with the title page.
1)
The Title Page:
The
submitted manuscript must have The Title Page. It should contain the
article title, type of publication, number of pages, number of figures,
tables and photographs, number of necessary reprints and key words. It
should also contain the name of author(s), affiliation(s), corresponding
author's mailing address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address.
Authors' name should be in order of 'First name Initial of Middle name.
Surname' (eg. James C. Bond).
2)
Names:
Name of chemicals, scientific terms and foreign names should be written in
the original languages. Generic names should be used for the name of
medicines.
3)
Units and
Numbers:
Units of measurements should be written as: mm, cm, ml, %, °C. Arabic
numerals should be used for the numbers.
4)
Figures, Tables
and Photographs:
Figures, tables and photographs should be typed on separate sheets. All of
them should be numbered (Figure 1, Table 1, Photograph 1) consecutively in
Arabic numerals. Insertion section of figures, tables and photographs
should be indicated in the text. Title should be indicated in each figure,
table and photograph. Addition to the title, brief explanation may be
cited if necessary. Figures and photographs should be clear enough to be
printed as they are. One sheet should contain only one figure, table or
photograph.
6.
References
The
references should be consecutively numbered in order that they are first
mentioned in the text. All the references should be listed in the end of
the text. Reference numbers such as 1), 2), 3)··· should be marked at the
upper right of the corresponding part in the text. In principle,
abbreviation should not be used for the title of Japanese journals.
Abbreviation of the non-Japanese journals may conform to "Index Medicus."
Up to six authors of a reference ought to be cited. In case of more than
four authors, use "et al" after the citation of three authors. Followings
are some examples of references.

Manuscript
Submission
A
manuscript (including text, figure, table, photographs) could be sent
either by post or through e-mail.
When sending by post, the manuscript should be submitted in
triplicate as one original and two copies. Together with the manuscript,
electronic files in a diskette (3.5 inch) should be enclosed. Format form
and software name should be clearly specified. For the submission, send
the manuscript by the registered mail to The Editorial Board of
International Health by marking "Manuscript" in red on
the envelope. The notice of
receiving the manuscript will be given to you either by post or email
within 2 weeks of reception.
When
sending through email, the manuscript in electric form should put cover
letter, abstract, text, references, tables and figures together into one
file of Word or either of PDF, rtf and doc format. Figures or photos could
be saved in separate files (with jpeg or PDF format), if attaching to the
text of Word file has any inconvenience. For the first submission, a
resolution image of figures and photos could be lower just enough for the
peer reviewers to understand, and should be sent as attached files. If not
possible to send electric documents through e-mail, they can be submitted
by post saving all the files on CD-R/RW and other memories. When accepted, figures and photos
could be requested to send by the publisher.

Decision and
Copyright: The Editorial Board discusses and
decides the acceptance of manuscript. Accepted manuscripts become the
property of Japan Association for International Health.
9.
Publication Fees: There is no charge for the printing
fee up to 4 pages (including text, figures, tables and photographs).
Printing fee will be charged to the author if the total number of the
manuscript is more than 5 pages. Fee for all reprints will be
charged.
